B.A. Islamic Studies

B.A. Islamic Studies is a fouryear undergraduate programme offered by Iconic University. This programme provides a comprehensive understanding of Islamic culture, history, and philosophy. It also covers topics such as the Quran and Hadith, Islamic Law, Islamic art and architecture, political and economic thought, Islamic spirituality, and Islamic civilization. The programme aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to become knowledgeable and effective members of society and work towards the promotion of Islamic values. The programme focuses on developing the critical thinking, analytical and research skills of students, enabling them to engage with issues of contemporary relevance.

The Bachelor of Art in Islamic Studies is designed to:

  1. acquaint the learner with the broad outlines of Islam as a religion and a way of life;
  2. increase the learner’s capacity and understanding of Islam as a culture and civilization;
  3. present Islam to the learner in its original sources;
  4. sustain rigorous academic research in all issues affecting Islam and Muslims in the contemporary period;
  5. place Islam in the context of other world religious traditions (with emphasis on the traditions practiced Nigeria);
  6. produce graduates with competences to undertake postgraduate studies in the field;
  7. provide the requisite human capital for the civil service; government ministries, departments, agencies, the judiciary, foreign service, etc;
  8. develop an appreciation of Islamic thought and practice and its contributions to the advancement of human development and civilisation, and
  9. deploy religion as an instrument for the promotion of peace, harmony, and development in the society.

B.A. Islamic Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study focused on the Islamic religion, culture, and history. It is an ideal degree programme for those interested in exploring the complexities of the Islamic faith and gaining a deeper understanding of the religion‘s influence on the world. A career in Islamic Studies can lead to various opportunities in government, nonprofit organizations, universities, and media organizations.

Those with a degree in Islamic Studies can pursue roles as researchers, scholars, teachers, and consultants. They can also work in religious organizations, providing a range of services such as teaching, counseling, and providing religious guidance. In addition, a degree in Islamic Studies can be beneficial for those interested in the political, social, and economic aspects of the Middle East, as the region is largely dominated by Islamic culture and tradition.

With a degree in Islamic Studies, individuals can pursue jobs in government, NGOs, and international organizations, helping to promote understanding and peace between different cultures. Admission into Iconic University for bachelor’s degree does not require JAMB result, but candidate will be asked to get a JAMB regularization number upon successful admission in order to be used for his/her NYSC at the time of graduation.  

Note: Admission for B.A. Islamic Studies is available only for 100 level now.

  • 100 Level (Freshman)
  1. Five (5) credit passes in WAEC, NECO, NBAIS, or similar bodies as recognised. The credit passes must include English Language, Arabic Language and Islamic Studies, and at least a pass in Mathematics at not more than two sittings.
  2. Five (5) merits in NABTEB or Teachers Grade Two examinations in Arts or Social Science subjects. Also, the credit passes must include English Language, Arabic Language and/or Islamic Studies, and at least a pass in Mathematics.
  3. Senior Islamic Studies Certificate (SISC) or Higher Muslim Studies Certificate (HMSC) or Higher Islamic Studies Certificate (HISC) with five credits in Arabic, Islamic Studies and any other three subjects including a pass in English Language.
  • 200 Level (Sophomores)
  1. The Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with a merit pass in English Language in addition to a credit pass in Arabic/Islamic Studies.
  2. National Diploma (ND) in Arabic and/or Islamic Studies from reputable institutions with a minimum of Lower Credit.
  3. GCE Advance level with at least two credit passes.
  4. OND with evidence of proficiency in Arabic and/or Islamic Studies.
  5. Certificate in Arabic and Islamic Studies or the equivalent from a recognised university in addition to three O’ Level papers in Arts or Social Sciences, including credit pass in English Language and Mathematics. 
  6. First degree (B.A.) in Arabic or Shari’ah Law

Iconic University charges modest fees that give learners the chance to pay per semester only. Nigerian candidates seeking admission will pay an application fee of N10,000 and $30 would be paid by foreign applicants.

Semester Fees: N50,000 and $200 (for foreign students only).

Note: This schedule is only applicable to Fall Semester 2023/’24 academic session.
