Master of International Relations

The Master of International Relations at Iconic University is a 3-semester professional master’s programme that offers students an in-depth study of global issues and the skills necessary to navigate the complex world of international relations and diplomacy. Programme Objectives

  1. To provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the structures, processes, and functions of the United Nations, regional organizations, and development partners and their role in global governance and development.
  2. To equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage and administer diplomatic missions, such as embassies and high commissions, in an international context.
  3. To foster an understanding of the impacts of global warming and climate change and the policies and actions needed to address these pressing issues at both local and international levels.
  4. To train students in the principles and practices of humanitarian affairs and sustainable development, allowing them to effectively respond to international crises and promote sustainable development initiatives.
  5. To develop a critical understanding of human rights issues and their relation to social development, and to equip students with the skills to advocate for human rights at a national and international level.
  6. To provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively communicate in the global arena, with a focus on mass communication and its role in shaping global affairs and diplomacy.

The Master of International Relations with specialization in International Policy & Diplomacy is a rigorous and comprehensive programme designed to equip students with a deep understanding of the complexities of the global political landscape and the art of diplomacy. It offers a unique blend of theoretical and practical knowledge, allowing students to develop key skills in critical analysis, negotiation, and strategic thinking. Master of International Relations (Human Right, Humanitarian Affairs and Sustainable Development)

Master of International Relations (Media Communication and Global Affairs)

The Master of International Relations with specialization in Media Communication and Global Affairs is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary programme designed for students interested in understanding the dynamics of mass communication in the global context. This programme combines essential skills and knowledge in international relations, media and communication studies, global governance, and cultural diplomacy to provide students with a thorough understanding of the role of mass communication in shaping global affairs. Through courses, workshops, and practical experiences, students will learn how to critically analyze and navigate the complex relationship between media, diplomacy, and global politics, preparing them for diverse careers in international organizations, government agencies, media corporations, and civil society organizations.

Admission Requirements

Entry Criteria

To be admitted for this programme, candidate must have 5 O’Level credits passes in English Language, Mathematics, including any other 3 subjects. In addition to the O’Level requirement above, candidate is expected to:
a.) i. have a minimum of second class lower division of a first degree in Management or Social Science.
b.) have a first degree with third class plus 5 years post-graduation experience or HND plus a university PGD at credit level pass, (i.e., CGPA of 3.0/5.0) or 50% on weighted percentage average may be considered for admission.
c.) present NYSC certificate (discharge, exemption or exclusion) for Nigerian candidates.

Note: Only certificates recognized by the Senate of Iconic University will be granted admissions.

Admission Notice

No JAMB examination or score is required for the Master of International Relations programme at Iconic Open University. Admitted students will only be required to register with JAMB for the regularization of their admission as Open University students.

Programme Fees

Tuition and payment

Iconic University charges modest fees that give learners the chance to pay per semester only. Nigerian candidates seeking admission will pay an application fee of N15,000 and $50 would be paid by international applicants.

Semester Fees:

Semester Fees are charged based on the human development index (HDI) of country of residence.

N175,000 (payment of practical/practicum/project courses or hardcopy course materials is exclusive)
02Anyone living in Very High Development Countries (International Students)
$800 or equivalent
03Anyone living in High Development Countries (International Students)
$600 or equivalent
04Anyone living in Medium Development Countries (International Students)
$400 or equivalent
05Anyone living in Low Development Countries (International Students)Anyone living in Low Development Countries (International Students)
$300 or equivalent
06Anyone living in “Other countries” (International Students)
$300 or equivalent
