Programme Overview

B.Sc. Accounting is a 400-level undergraduate programme designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of accounting. The programme covers the fundamentals of financial accounting, managerial accounting, taxation, auditing, and financial management. A B.Sc. Accounting student will learn how to analyze and interpret financial data, use accounting software, and develop effective financial management techniques. Upon graduation, students may pursue a career in public accounting, private accounting, or financial management.

Programme Objectives

The major objectives of a bachelor’s degree programme in accounting are to:

  1. Produce high level accounting personnel that can contribute to the development of accounting practice through research and publications;
  2. Provide basic knowledge and skills needed for the understanding and analysis of problems relating to accounting in the management of industries, commercial ventures, public enterprises, and other human organizations;
  3. Equip students with knowledge and skills for decision making, especially the analytical skills needed for recognizing, defining, and solving problems, data collection i.e. especially data gathering and analytical skills;
  4. Develop in students, leadership and interpersonal relations skills in accounting/management;
  5. Provide training aimed at improving and upgrading the existing and potential manpower needed for national development; and
  6. Develop in students’ entrepreneurial skills and competencies to adequately prepare them to be innovative in creating accounting jobs especially in this era of technological advancement and progression.

Admission Requirements

Entry Criteria

Admission into Iconic University for bachelor’s degree does not require JAMB result, but candidates will be asked to get a JAMB regularisation number upon successful admission in order to be used for his/her NYSC at the time of graduation.

100 Level (Freshman)

  1. Five (5) credit passes in WAEC, NECO, NBAIS, or similar bodies as recognized. The credit passes must include English Language, and Mathematics, with any other three (3) from Principles of Accounting, Commerce, Economics and any other relevant WAEC/NECO commercial subjects at not more than two sittings.
  2. Five (5) merits in NABTEB or Teachers Grade Two examinations in Management or Social Science subjects. Also, the credit passes must include English Language, and Mathematics.

200 Level (Sophomores)

  1. The Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with a merit pass in English Language in addition to a credit pass in Economics/Accounting/Business Admin/Public Admin.
  2. National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting/Banking and Finance/Insurance/Taxation/Actuarial Science from reputable institutions with a minimum of Lower Credit.
  3. GCE Advance level with at least two credit passes.
  4. OND with evidence of proficiency in Accounting/Banking and Finance.
  5. Certificate in Accounting or the equivalent from a recognized professional body or University in addition to three O’ Level papers in Management or Social Sciences, including credit pass in English Language, and Mathematics.
  6. First degree (B.Sc.) in Taxation, Business Admin, Public Admin, Entrepreneurship, or Economics.

Note: Only certificates recognized by the Senate of Iconic University will be granted admissions.

Admission Notice

No JAMB examination or score is required for the B.Sc. Accounting programme at Iconic Open University. Admitted students will only be required to register with JAMB for the regularization of their admission as Open University students.

A Bachelor of Science in Accounting is an excellent choice for those seeking a career in the field of accounting. With this degree, graduates have the opportunity to work in a variety of different settings, including public and private accounting firms, government agencies, and corporate settings. Accountants are responsible for preparing and analyzing financial statements, monitoring financial transactions, and preparing tax returns.

They also may be involved in budgeting, creating financial forecasts, and analyzing financial data. Accountants often advise their clients on financial matters and help them make decisions on how to best manage their money. Those with a B.Sc. in Accounting can pursue a number of career paths. Some may choose to work as Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), who are responsible for auditing and preparing financial reports for companies. Others may choose to work as financial analysts, providing research and analysis to investors or companies. Additionally, many B.Sc. Accounting graduates are employed in the banking, insurance, or government sectors.

Programme Fees

Tuition and payment

Iconic University charges modest fees that gives learner the opportunity to pay registration fee per semester only. Nigerian candidates who living in Nigeria and are seeking for admission will pay an application fee of N10,000 only, other International candidates as well as Nigerians in diaspora will pay $30 or equivalent rate to the currency of the country they live.

Semester Fees:

Semester Fees for students living outside Nigeria are charged based on the human development index (HDI) of country of residence.

Fees are categorised into:

01Nigerians living in Nigeria only
N85,000 (payment of practical/practicum/SIWES/project courses or hardcopy course materials is exclusive)
02Anyone living in Very High Development Countries (International Students)
$500 or equivalent
03Anyone living in High Development Countries (International Students)
$400 or equivalent
04Anyone living in Medium Development Countries (International Students)
$350 or equivalent
05Anyone living in Low Development Countries (International Students)
$300 or equivalent
06Anyone living in “other countries” (International Students)
$250 or equivalent
