B.Sc. International Relations & Diplomacy
8 Semesters
The B.Ed. Educational Technology prepares the student as future teachers and education professionals serving as technology leaders to leverage technology in schools and workplaces. The programme focuses on effective learning experiences through technology integration for traditional campuses/workplaces and distance learning (technology-enabled and technology-enhanced), computer-assisted instruction, and the latest technological trends and techniques in the interdisciplinary field of education. It focuses on the fundamental principles of analysing, designing, creating, deploying, and managing educational resources to improve teaching and learning. Students in the programme design instruction, develop digital tools, sharpen pedagogical skills, develop classroom strategies, and learn how to use technology to support education. Students learn how to use blended learning techniques, provide professional development to teachers, and develop technical assistance procedures for colleagues.
Philosophy
The philosophy of educational technology is to produce competent graduate teachers who will be leaders in technology integration and teach subjects in arts, sciences, or social sciences, at secondary and post-secondary schools. Because of the practical nature of the subjects, the courses have been designed so that they may be taught with a practical “hands-on” orientation. Considerable time is, therefore, spent in workshops as part of the scheduled teaching. Project work, problem-solving approach and teaching practice in reallife learning environments form important components of the programme.
The specific objectives of the Bachelor of Educational Technology programme are to produce teachers who will be able to:
i. provide knowledge and skills for educational technology specialists in the fields of instructional design, educational software development, performance improvement, multimedia authoring, and distance learning, among others, for educational (primary, secondary, and higher), learning resource centres, corporate, governmental, and nongovernmental settings;
ii. in conjunction with other Departments in the Faculty of Education and other allied Departments in the University provide necessary knowledge, competencies and skills for preparing and qualifying pre-service and serving teachers;
iii. provide required and elective courses to students in other areas of specialisation, particularly in the Faculty of Education, and other related fields;
iv. provide academically and professionally qualified teachers in arts, sciences, social sciences, and a variety of contexts in government, corporate and military environments;
v. assist them to acquire in-depth knowledge of the teaching subjects – along with the skills of effective classroom management and effective conduct of educational research; and
vi. develop them to be able to serve as resource persons to subject teachers in the production of instructional materials.
