The Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) is a direct entry 500 level programme at Iconic Open University; the programme is comprehensive and rigorous degree programme designed to prepare students for a career as a professional physiotherapist. Programme Objectives

apply the acquired knowledge and skills to render services as an effective direct access, that is first-contact health care provider;
independently assess a patient in order to arrive at a definitive physical diagnosis, plan and render physiotherapy intervention according to the patient’s clinical state;
render evidence-based clinical physiotherapy services in traditional hospital/clinical settings as an autonomous health care professional within the health team; in rehabilitation facilities and other health care establishments;
render evidence-based clinical physiotherapy services in community and primary health care centres, as well as itinerary physiotherapy services;
render requisite services at physiotherapy training institutions, research centres and other academic environments (after undergoing relevant postgraduate training);
provide health promotions services in sports teams and organisations, physical fitness centre and health promotion facilities; industrial workplace and other occupational environments;
apply the learned knowledge, and acquire further trainings in health policies, health management and administration, socio-cultural health issues and global health issues.
develop and maintain rapport with professional colleagues, patients, their relatives and members of the health care team; and
engage in basic and applied research activities as a means of continuing professional development and professional enhancement.

Admission Requirements

Entry Criteria

The entry-level Doctor of Physiotherapy degree training shall normally span five academic sessions (10 semesters) for candidates admitted by Direct Entry. The modes of admission into the DPT degree programme is only through Direct Entry.

200 Level
Candidates for admission into the 200 level of study must have a minimum of 5 credit passes in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and English language at Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) or General Certificate of Education (GCE ‘O’ Level) or its equivalents, in addition to ND/HND in Physiotherapy, Nursing, Community Health, Medical Lab, Pharmacy, or any other related health discipline.

300 Level
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in related Health Sciences disciplines (other than Physiotherapy) from reputable universities recognised by the Senate of the Iconic University offering the DPT programme OR candidates holding the General Certificate of Education (G.C.E. Advanced level) or its recognised equivalents passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology may be admitted into 300 level of study.

Transition to Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT):
A candidate who possesses a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Physiotherapy or Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B. Physiotherapy) or a Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation (BMR) degree in Physiotherapy or its equivalent may be admitted into the DPT degree programme at the 500 Level of study.

Programme Fees

Tuition and payment

Iconic University charges modest fees that gives learner the opportunity to pay registration fee per semester only. Nigerian candidates who living in Nigeria and are seeking for admission will pay an application fee of N10,000 only, other International candidates as well as Nigerians in diaspora will pay $30 equivalent rate to the currency of the country they live.

Semester Fees:

Semester Fees for students living outside Nigeria are charged based on the human development index (HDI) of country of residence.

01Nigerians living in Nigeria only: N300,000 (payment of practical/practicum/SIWES/project courses or hardcopy course materials is exclusive)
02Anyone living in Very High Development Countries (International Students): $3000 or equivalent
03Anyone living in High Development Countries (International Students): $2500 or equivalent
04Anyone living in Medium Development Countries (International Students): $2000 or equivalent
05Anyone living in Low Development Countries (International Students): $2000 or equivalent
06Anyone living in “other countries” (International Students): $2000 or equivalent
