Directorate of Learning Resources

The Directorate of Learning Resources (DLR) is the engine room of instructional excellence at Iconic Open University. Established to ensure that every Icon, wherever they are and whenever they study has access to world-class, self-instructional learning materials, the Directorate provides the technical, creative, and production expertise that transforms academic expertise into engaging distance learning experiences. Operating under the Office of the Director, the Directorate works in close collaboration with Faculties, the University Library, University Press and the ICT Directorate to deliver on the University's promise of quality ODL education. The Directorate is organized into three specialized Units, each responsible for a distinct stage of the learning resource value chain: **i. Course Materials Development Unit (CMDU)** The Course Materials Development Unit is responsible for the pedagogical design and authoring of all course materials. Working with Subject Matter Experts, the CMDU ensures that every course is built on a solid instructional blueprint with clear learning objectives, structured modules and units, embedded self-assessment exercises, and assessments aligned with NUC CCMAS standards. The Unit coordinates course blueprints, manages the material development cycle, and enforces the University's quality assurance and review processes before any content proceeds to production. **Core Functions:** Instructional design support • Course blueprinting • SME coordination • Peer and editorial review • Alignment with NUC and Iconic curriculum standards **ii. Course Material Production Unit (CMPU)** The Course Material Production Unit translates approved drafts into polished, learner-ready resources. From typesetting and graphic design to formatting for the iCampus platform and print-on-demand, the CMPU ensures that materials are accurate, accessible, and visually coherent. The Unit also manages version control, copyright and attribution compliance, and the final deployment of course materials to learners in accordance with the University's publishing standards. **Core Functions:** Typesetting and layout • Graphic design • Digital formatting and iCampus deployment • Print-on-demand coordination • Version control and copyright compliance **iii. Multimedia Production Unit (MPU)** The Multimedia Production Unit brings courses to life through audio, video, and interactive media. The MPU produces pre-recorded lectures, explainer videos, audio podcasts, simulations, and other rich media that cater to diverse learning styles and enhance learner engagement. The Unit also provides technical support for live interactive lectures, ensures accessibility (captions, transcripts), and maintains the University's media asset library. **Core Functions:** Video and audio production • Explainer animations and simulations • Live lecture technical support • Accessibility compliance (captions, transcripts) • Media asset management Through the coordinated work of these three Units, the Directorate of Learning Resources guarantees that Iconic Open University course materials are pedagogically sound, professionally produced, and accessible to all learners fulfilling our vision of pioneering excellence in Open and Distance Learning in Nigeria.
